Rotting Off the Vine: A place for transient and exiled Cub fans

“Being a Cubs fan, he had an abiding sense of tragedy which sustained him through temporary periods of joy.”- William Butler Yeats (reworked just a bit)

Okay so Yeats famous quote was about an Irishman and not a Cubs fan, but as anyone who has grown up as or become (either by force or will) a Cubs fan can tell you, the Irish poet could just as well have been writing about any of the generations of Cubs fans whose dreams have gone unfulfilled for nearly a century. This site is for Cubs fans everywhere, but specifically where I am in Los Angeles. I will be providing any help I can to Cubs fans yearning to find places to meet and go, and there is a blog that you can check out over here. Welcome and enjoy!

Singles and Cubs Fans

Meetup for CubsMeetup for Cubs
I was doing a little digging and came across what appeared at first to be a dating site but in reality was just a place for people to meet up. The group is actually 65 people from Newport Beach who wanted to get together and talk, watch and live Cubs baseball. Check out the site here.

A Cubs Fan in Los Angeles... Where to Go

I've been chasing around leads trying to find places for Cubs fans in Los Angeles to go and, lo and behold, I've found a few. Nocturnal, a dive in Santa Monica, actually has a Cubs jersey in the window right above a Budweiser sign. It's owned by a couple of Chicago expatriates and used to be called 'The Loop.' How much more Cubs does it get? Oh, it gets more Cubs than that. Try the 107 Bar downtown. The sign above the keyhole-shaped entrance is none other than an Old Style sign. Step inside and you'll forget you're in L.A. Also, the Snake Pit on Melrose is reputed to be Cub-fan friendly, though I didn't see any fans when I visited. The best part about these places is that there are actually groups of Cubs fans there, willing to suffer the social distinction of being drunk in the morning (thanks to a two-hour time difference, Wrigley day games and WGN). You're never alone as a Cubs fan. This is proof.

Working Hard for You (doesn't mean that I'm good at it)

This is a small screen shot of an interactive Google map I created of Cub friendly places in L.A. Among the things I'd like to do with the map are adding more locations- that can be where you come in, and of course, figuring out how to actually embed the map on the site. I figure you may have trouble reading it at it's current size. The screen shot's just to prove I tried. I promise I'll try to get this thing functional soon.
